Oak Hill Lady Eagles Cross Country standouts junior Margo Hornocker and freshman Mollie Gamble competed in the 36th IHSAA Girls Cross Country State Championships Saturday October 29th. The meet was held on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. Temperatures were in the 80’s at race time producing some of the slowest State Finals times in recent memory. Hornocker, the 2016 County and Conference Champion, was competing in the State Finals for the second straight year after finishing 10th in the New Haven Semi-State. Gamble, the Marion Sectional Champion, qualified for the State Finals for the first time thanks to a 20th place finish. Dekalb junior and New Haven Semi-State Champion Tyler Schwartz was the individual State Champion while the Carmel Lady Greyhounds won their 7th consecutive team title. Hornocker and Gamble finished 64th and 67th respectively, which were the 7th and 8th best finishes at the State Finals by a Lady Eagle athlete and best since Marcy Devoe’s 44th in 1991.
