From staff reports
The tradition of the Oak Hill cross country program having a boy and girl runner named all state has continued.
The all-state teams were released on Wednesday. Oak Hill senior Chandler Julius was named to the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Class 2A First Team on the boys’ side and Oak Hill sophomore Margo Hornocker was named to the Class 2A First Team on the girls’ side. This is the 15th straight year Oak Hill has had a boy runner make the list and the eighth straight year Oak Hill had a girl runner make the list.
This year marked the second straight season Julius and Hornocker made all-state honors. Hornocker is the first girl from Oak Hill to be named first team all state more than once. Julius and Hornocker join Matt McClain (2005, 2006 and 2007) and Cameron Balser (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) as the four athletes in Oak Hill’s history to make first team all state multiple times.
Hornocker was the only local athlete to qualify for a state final meet. Hornocker qualified for the cross country state finals after finishing 20th at the regional. She was the ninth of 10 individual state qualifiers. Hornocker placed 123rd in the state finals at Terre Haute. Hornocker took second at the sectional while helping the Eagles advance to the regional as a team. She placed fourth at the regional while helping the Eagles advance to the semistate as a team. Hornocker also won the Grant Four and Central Indiana Conference Meets.
Julius helped Oak Hill advance to the regional as a team. He took third at the sectional while helping Oak Hill place second as a team. Julius then took fifth at the regional to qualifying for the semistate as an individual. Julius was the top area finisher at the semistate, taking 30th.
Julius won the CIC Meet and took second place at the Grant Four Meet.
Oak Hill freshman Jenessa Hasty and senior Brooke Hasty were named to the Class 2A girls’ honorable mention list. This is the second straight year Brooke Hasty has been named all state.
