Oak Hill’s Margo Hornocker made a move to the front at the 3-kilometer mark and went on to win the 50th anniversary edition of the New Prairie Invitational AAA (big school) race Saturday afternoon.
Hornocker was clocked in 18 minutes, 12 seconds which was the fifth-fastest time in the history of the event. The Golden Eagles’ Mollie Gamble also ran in the race and finished seventh in 18:47.
The two Oak Hill girls competed as individuals with the remainder of the girls’ team sitting out to prepare for Tuesday’s Grant Four Invitational race.
“Our goal was to get Margo and Mollie all four semistate courses so we can compare times with other individuals who will be competing in the (New Haven) semistate,” Oak Hill coach Paige Brunner said. “We wanted to put them at a disadvantage and wanted to see how they would compete.
“Margo made her move at the 3K mark and ran a great race, and Mollie was in the top 10 most of the race,” Brunner added.
