Oak Hill sophomore Hope Mygrant had a roller coaster day in the opening round of the girls state golf championship on Friday at Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel.
Starting on the back nine, Mygrant managed just one par on her way to a 56, but settled down to par four of her first six holes, with a pair of bogeys in between on her second nine. She played the last three holes of the day at six-over par to finish with a 44 on the front and 100 for the round on the par 72 layout.

Evansville North and Zionsville each carded 308s to stand tied for the lead in the team score and were 10 shots better than Homestead (318). Carmel (320) and Guerin Catholic (327) round out the top-five heading into today’s final round.

Westfield’s Jocelyn Bruch shot a four-under par, 68 and leads the battle for individual state champion by five shots over Katie Kuc from Carmel and Madaleine Pape of Fort Wayne Luers, who both shot 73.
