The first full week of fall athletics in Grant County saw several big performances from various athletes, but a pair stood out to take Chronicle-Tribune Athlete of the Week honors.

Oak Hill boys’ soccer player Garrett Taylor finished the week with three goals over the course of two games as the Golden Eagles earned a pair of shutouts while Hunter Wise helped the Madison-Grant volleyball team to five wins last week. Both did enough to earn the weekly honor.

In a 4-1 victory over Tipton last Tuesday, Taylor notched a goal as part of Oak Hill’s three-goal barrage in the second half to pull away.

Taylor bested that effort on Thursday in a 4-0 shutout of Rochester. The freshman scored two goals in the first half to put Oak Hill up 2-0 at the half, plenty of breathing room from the visiting Zebras.

After lighting up the soccer pitch scoreboards in junior high, Taylor seems poised to do the same for the Golden Eagles over the next four years.
