Oak Hill led early, but Class 2A third-ranked Whitko struck back and pulled away for an 8-4 victory over the Golden Eagles in their sectional championship game Thursday evening.
The Golden Eagles advanced Wednesday with a 4-2 semifinals victory over Lewis Cass and jumped ahead of Whitko 2-0 in the first inning. Whitko took the lead in the fifth, capitalizing on three Eagles errors. It was a close game heading into the seventh with Whitko holding a 5-3 lead and the Wildcats tacked on three more runs.

Kristin Dubois led off the game with a double and Coleena Selleck laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, setting the Eagles up for their two-run first. Ella Ridgeway hit a double in the fourth when the Eagles added a run when Ashlyn Transier hit a RBI double.

Whitko all-state pitcher Ellie Snep settled down after the fourth and allowed only one more run to Oak Hill in the seventh.

“We got two runs early on and had a couple nice at bats and dropped a beautiful sacrifice bunt down,” Oak Hill coach Ben Johnson said. “I felt like we should have scored a couple more. (Snep) is a good pitcher, but we believed we could score off of her, and we did early on.”

Kaela Robey was 2-for-4 and Jenessa Hasty had a key hit in the first.

Oak Hill finished 18-11.

Whitko improved to 20-7 and advance to the regional round and will play Western Boone.
