Boys Swim Team Breaks Records At Sectional

A pair of Oak Hill boys swimming school records were set in Thursday’s preliminary races of the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional, and both the Golden Eagles and Marion will send a group of swimmers into today’s consolation and championship races.
Swimming and diving finals begin at 9 a.m. today at HSE in Fishers. Admission is $8.

Oak Hill senior Arik Gamble surpassed his individual medley record time of 2:04.01 with a 2:02.08, while sophomore Dalton Scheffer set the 500 freestyle record with a time of 5:03.60 to beat the old mark of 5:04.72.

Gamble finished with the fourth best time in the preliminary IM and will race in the championship. Gamble earned a spot in the 100 breaststroke final with a fourth place finish (1:01.82).

Scheffer advanced to the finals with his sixth-place swim in the 500 free and narrowly missed claiming a spot in the 200 free by finishing ninth.

The lone other Grant County swimmer competing in a sectional final is Oak Hill junior Samuel Boyer who finished sixth (23.45) in the 50 free.

The top eight swimmers in each event advanced to today’s championship races while the ninth through 16th fastest times qualified for consolation races.

Gamble, Scheffer, Boyer along with Blake LeFavour helped the Golden Eagles to a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The same quartet was disqualified from the 200 freestyle relay.

Oak Hill’s 400 freestyle relay team of Griffin Overmyer, Benjamin Martin, Colin Harts and Macallister Cheek were fourth.

Marion’s 200 IM relay team of Tyler Morgan, Jonathan Reynolds, Zach Stephens and Joseph Powell were sixth and will race in the finals. Morgan, Powell, Reynolds and Henrique Samorini finished sixth in the 200 free relay. Samorini, Joel Barnes, Powell and Stephens were seventh in the 400 free relay.

Oak Hill individuals advancing to consolation races included: Cheek (200 free, 500 free), Jonathan Maynus (200 free, 500 free), LeFavour (200 IM), Landon White (200 IM, 100 breast), Boyer (100 butterfly) and Harts (100 free, 100 back) and Landen Ashely (100 back).

Marion individuals advancing to consolation races included: Morgan (50 free, 100 free), Stephens (100 butterfly), Reynolds (100 butterfly, 100 breast),
