Oak Hill sophomore Grant Brown set two school records during the boys’ sectional swimming and diving finals at Fishers High School.
After setting the school record in the 100 freestyle on Thursday night and setting the school record in the backstroke on Saturday, Brown has been named this week’s Chronicle-Tribune Athlete of the Week.
During Thursday’s sectional prelims, Brown swam the 100 freestyle in 49.24 seconds. Brown’s time broke the previous school record of 49.98 seconds, which was set by Willis Brookshire.
Brown’s time also gave him the third seed in the 100 freestyle going into Saturday’s sectional final. Brown also advanced to Saturday’s sectional final in the backstroke after taking fourth during the prelims in a time of 56.10 seconds.
Brown’s big weekend didn’t stop there.
Returning on Saturday for the finals, Brown broke the school record in the backstroke with a time of 55.53 seconds. That broke the previous school record of 55.75 seconds, which was set by Brett Pettit in 2004.
Brown finished fourth in the backstroke and was fifth in the 100 freestyle with his time of 50.01 seconds.
Brown also was part of Oak Hill’s 200 medley relay team that took third in a time of 1:43.18. Joining Brown on that team were Kegan Anderson, Austin Daugherty and Chanse Mygrant.
Brown also teamed with Mygrant, Austin Miller and Anderson took take fourth in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:31.63.
Brown’s weekend was just part of a successful sectional for the Eagles. Oak Hill swam 24 times during Thursday’s prelims, and 22 of those advanced either Saturday’s finals or consolation races.
Oak Hill placed fifth with 224 points. Hamilton Southeastern won the meet with 557.5 points. Fishers was second with 390 points. Pendleton Heights was third with 279.5 points. Yorktown was fourth with 248 points.
